In this petite-drama you will meet Queen Elizabeth and her royal court as she learns about an expedition to discover the fairy queen. Simon Fernando's Pirate Adventure

ARRG! Bring your bawdy crew to this swashbuckling young-pirate adventure to be dressed like a pirate, talk like a pirate and act like a pirate.  Enjoy Simon Fernando’s pirate friends in this creative production at Waterside Theatre. Backstage Tours

Individual: $7 – Reservations required.
An exclusive behind the scenes look at how theatrical magic is created at Waterside Theatre. During this 45-minute walking tour you’ll see how The Lost Colony’s stage is transformed into several scenes right before your eyes and learn other “tricks of the trade” while visiting the theatre, costume shop, and props areas.

The Costume Shop is the highlight of the tour as your group mingles among the many and varied actual costumes used in the drama each night. Witness this area bustling with activity, as costumers, wardrobe personnel and stitchers are busy putting final touches on last minute garment changes! As you move on to the scene shop and prop rooms you can see actors and technicians at work and watch as dancers warm up for the show.

The tour begins promptly at 7:00 pm at The Lost Colony Box Office and ends at 7:45pm, right before our 8:00 pm show time. These exclusive tours are limited to the first 50 guests! For tickets: by phone 252-473-3414 or purchase tickets online.

Groups wishing to attend the pre-performance tour must register and pay the $7 per person in advance of the attendance date and the group number will not be limited to 50.

The Lost Colony

About the Lost Colonists of Roanoke
Before Jamestown and Plymouth, a group of about 120 men, women and children bravely established the first English settlement in the New World on Roanoke Island in 1587.  Shortly after arriving in this New World, colonist Eleanor Dare, gave birth to Virginia Dare, the first English child born in America.

But life on the island was difficult. Low on supplies and facing hostile Native Americans, the colonists sent Governor John White back to England in the summer of 1587 for supplies. Due to the impending war with Spain, however, Governor White was unable to return to Roanoke Island until 1590. When he arrived, the colony had vanished, leaving one tantalizing clue as to their whereabouts: the word “CROATOAN” carved on a post. The fate of those first colonists remains a mystery to this day and is one of America’s most intriguing unsolved mysteries.

Today, visitors to Roanoke Island can see this amazing story on summer nights at Waterside Theatre, home of The Lost Colony. Performed near the very site of the colonists’ ill-fated settlement, the production recounts the actual historical events with the fictional story of the colonists’ spirit, courage and dream of freedom, a story that rings true today.

Written by North Carolina’s Pulitzer prize-winning playwright, Paul Green, and produced by the Roanoke Island Historical Association, The Lost Colony is a first in its own right. It is the first and longest running historical outdoor drama. Combining drama, dance, spectacle, and song, the production is the forerunner of the modern American musical.

During its extraordinary run, the production has served as a training ground for hundreds of remarkably accomplished alumni over the decades. Notable actors such as Andy Griffith, Leon Rippy, Chris Elliott, Eileen Fulton and R.G. Armstrong got their stage legs at the Waterside Theatre. Noted community Theatre directors Ira David Wood and Haskell Fitz-Simons and North Carolina Senator Marc Basnight graced the stage of Waterside Theatre early in their careers. For six weeks, local musical groups will take the stage at the Duck Town Park Gazebo. The concerts are from 6:00 – 7:30 pm and are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from June 29 through August 5.

The camp is 3 days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The cost is $75 for all 3 days. Campers must be signed up a week prior due to limited availability. All equipment is provided (excluding helmets), however campers are encouraged to bring their own to help speed up the learning process. Please note that some or all of the outdoor activities may not be held due to inclement weather. The safety of the campers is of the utmost importance!
