6th Annual Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon - Nov. 11-13, 2011


A Great Reason to Come Back!

Join over 8,000 runners and walkers this November for the Gateway Bank Outer Banks Marathon and Half Marathon! Fall fun on foot begins on Friday with a two-day Race EXPO, and on Saturday, the Kelly Hospitality Group Fun Run and 5K and the Outer Banks 8K. Finish out the weekend with the marathon and half marathon on Sunday and a rockin' post race Pirate Jamboree in downtown Manteo! For more information and to register, click here. Start Time:7:20 AM  (7 HOURS - Course Time Limit)Runners need to maintain a pace of 16 min/mile in order to "beat the bridge" at mile 22.  The bridge will be closed to runners at 1:30pm. Mandatory wave start - placed by estimated finish time; 1st wave for elites and competitors.       

The Outer Banks Half Marathon, is the second half of the Outer Banks Marathon course, see above. The half marathon will begin in Nags Head, near the largest sand dune on the East Coast at Jockey’s Ridge State Park; cross the beautiful Washington-Baum Bridge, and finish on Roanoke Island near where the first English colonists landed in 1587.

The Outer Banks 8K is an out-and-back course which will start in Kill Devil Hills at the First Flight High School track (in front of the grandstand), continue through Nags Head Woods Maritime Forest and finish at the track.  The course is partly on a dirt road and is walker-friendly.

Take the Challenge!  Satisfy your inner pirate and take the Pamlico Jack Challenge or Blackbeard Challenge!  Each finisher of the Pamlico Jack Challenge (run/walk the 8K on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday) and Blackbeard Challenge (run/walk both the 8K and Marathon) will receive a commemorative pin (to proudly attach to your finisher medal...Arrrgh!) to recognize your accomplishment.

The Buccaneer 5K is an out-and-back course (part of the Outer Banks 8K course), which begins at First Flight High School (FFHS) track in Kill Devil Hills, enters and returns along Old Nags Head Woods Road, and finishes at FFHS.
