Fun Fact Friday

March 9, 2012

All of this rain has me thinking about the thing I love most about spring- the flowers!  Today, I am looking for the name of a native wild flower that grows all over the Outer Banks.

-Its petals are mostly red with yellow tips.

-It thrives in full sun with excellent drainage which is why it grows so well in the sandy soil on the Outer Banks.

-It blooms here from about mid spring through the first frost.
