Spry Creek Home Accents

Spry Creek is owned by lifelong Outer Banks resident Karen Whitfield and her husband, John. They have converted her father’s old auto repair shop into a surprising home accents shop. They kept the old bay doors and shop flooring for charm, and be sure to look for Karen’s father’s work bench, which came out of Penny’s Hill Lifesaving Station. In the shop, Karen emphasizes local artwork like jewelry, art glass, handmade soaps and even carved decoys. She has imported linens, handcrafted ceramics from Spain, Poland, Portugal and Mexico as well as Mexican glassware and Polish art glass. This year they’ve added toys, glassware and hand-woven throws made in the U.S.A. Spry Creek is named after a deepwater creek just north of the shop where local fishermen used to keep their boats and a couple of local crabbers still do.
