A NewswireToday Press Release dated 12/28/11

Casual apparel and activewear company OBX Outfitters™ is proud to announce the availability of high-quality men’s and women’s clothing from its newly launched storefront on the popular shopping website Amazon.com.

Supporting American businesses and workers, OBX Outfitters™ features apparel designed and manufactured in North Carolina. “Every dollar a customer spends on one of our products stays here in the United States and will find its way back to supporting the economic and environmental strength of the Outer Banks,” Stacy Menzies, company president, said.

Menzies explained that the idea for her company came from years of shopping for outdoor gear and T-shirts in retail stores throughout the Outer Banks while on vacation. She was able to find quality merchandise, but noticed that everything on sale was made overseas. “It bothered me that customers were being forced to buy clothing from abroad, especially in a state like ours that was once a textile powerhouse but was now going through difficult economic times,” Menzies said. Detailed research on the state of the apparel industry showed that even the most basic, inexpensive clothing items such as T-shirts were increasingly being manufactured abroad, then imported back into the U.S. where they were being purchased by the tens of thousands of yearly Outer Banks visitors from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina and elsewhere. When building OBX Outfitters™ in the summer of 2011, Menzies searched for in-state screen printers and textile companies in an effort to produce clothing made in North Carolina, thus developing a business plan which could pump tourism money from both the sale as well as the manufacture of its products back into local economies. The planning resulted in local vendors producing four items for two initial clothing lines from OBX Outfitters™ in late fall of 2011: Find Your Happy Place ™ casual tees and Find Your Stride ™ activewear tees and ladies’ tanks. Made from innovative, moisture wicking 100% microdenier polyester to keep individuals comfortable and dry, the Find Your Stride ™ line of activewear is designed for year-round gym workouts as well as serious marathoners and other outdoor enthusiasts. The polyester micro fibers draw moisture away from the skin to speed up the evaporation process, helping to regulate body temperature when it rises and keeping the shirt drier, lighter, and more comfortable than regular cotton materials. The line was launched in November at the 2011 OBX Marathon, an annual event in Nags Head drawing more than 6,000 runners from across the country. The Find Your Happy Place ™ casual tees were also designed with a nod toward keeping cool, made from a lightweight 50/50 poly/cotton blend and featuring a tourist-friendly geographic representation of the Outer Banks, showcasing its many different communities from Corolla to Nags Head to Ocracoke. All tees from OBX Outfitters™ are available on Amazon.com by typing “OBX Outfitters shirts” in the main search bar at the top of the page.
