...to Have a Great St. Patrick's Day on the Outer Banks!

Plan your trip now for a fun-filled St. Patrick’s Day week or weekend with us in Corolla. The holiday kicks off March 14th with the Annual Running of the Leprechauns 10K race, starting at Kelly’s Restaurant and Tavern (www.kellysrestaurant.com). The race starts at 8:00am on Saturday, March 14th. This year, the race has been lengthened from an 8K to a 10K. Always a fun race with lots of competition and camaraderie - and great costumes! When you finish the race, step inside Kelly’s to enjoy Irish Stew, Irish Soda Bread, Kelly’s famous Sweet Potato Biscuits, sweets & cookies and of course, a glass or 2 of Guinness!

Most restaurants are open after a winter hiatus and serving your favorite Outer Banks dishes, along with plenty of Corned Beef & Cabbage! You can spend the rest of the day enjoying the shops, sites, beaches, or resting after your race.

On Sunday, March 15th, enjoy the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the state on NC! The 26th Annual Kelly’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade starts around 1:00 pm on the beach road. The parade route starts near the Nags Head Fishing Pier and ends at Gallery Row. The parade is about a mile long - the Outer Banks own Shamrock Green Mile! In year’s past there have been over 1,200 participants and 10,000 spectators!

I have participated in the Outer Banks SPCA Dog Walk part of the parade - sometimes we have over 100 dogs, all decked out in their Green! There are marching bands, Bag Pipe groups, local car clubs, floats, fire trucks (a favorite with the kids), candy and bead tossing, and lots of fun for everyone! At the end of the parade, head back over to Kelly’s for food, beverages (green of course!), music and dancing. It’s a great time and if you have never had the opportunity to enjoy an Outer Banks St. Patrick’s Day, well, this might be your year!
